The Lapidary Club of Northern Tasmania Inc. is a not-for-profit club that provides an environment where people with an interest in gemstones, rocks and minerals can get together. Current membership is more than 180 bringing together a broad range of ages and people of15 nationalities.The LCNT Inc. Provides an environment where people with an interest in fossicking for gemstones, rocks, fossils and jewellery making can network and share their interests and skills.
The collecting and identification of 'rocks', then the process of cutting, polishing and crafting gemstones into specimens, items of jewellery and the accumulation of collections are fascinating, absorbing and fruitful endeavours.
LCNT Inc has up-to-date professional lapidary machines and equipment that facilitates the cutting of and the crafting of gem material, collection material, scientific and geological specimens into professionally polished and appropriately presented material.
Field Trips are offered to allow members to learn to prospect and fossick for geological materials and minerals in Tasmania such as:
- Smokey Quartz;
- Petrified Wood;
- 'Treefern' fossils
- Sapphires;
- Topaz;
- Agate;
- Minerals and other fossils .
